The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on the Labour Market in Spain

Robotics and artificial intelligence will mark the future creation and disappearance of professions.

Digital transformation is already a reality in Spanish companies. There are increasing numbers of specialists in the field of android creation and innovation. There is evidence that being an expert in robotics and artificial intelligence applied to automaton gadgets is one of the most sought after professions for the technology industry and in the not-too-distant future it could be one of the professions with the highest demand in different environments of the labour market.

In fact, the impact of artificial intelligence on the labour market in Spain is such that companies must consider how to respond to it now, because it is not a matter for the future but a present reality to which they must adapt with digital training and transformation. As Sylvia Taudien, founder of the international company Advantage Consultores, explains, “Digital transformation is not only about being present on social media, but about Spanish companies having a culture of digitalisation and this has to be introduced in the day-to-day running of the company at all levels.”

According to Sylvia Taudien, some existing professions will disappear in the near future while other completely new job positions will appear. Even so, the jobs which are not totally eclipsed by robots will also have to adapt to their presence in some aspects of their working day. Taudien asserts, “Robots will improve our quality of life by reducing the working day for humans, who will have more free time. If they are well managed, technology and artificial intelligence will create a much better future.”

Currently, the best-known technology devices might be driverless cars or the machines installed on production lines in some industries. But artificial intelligence has developed to such a high level that the robotics revolution has already reached the human resources sector. Large and multinational companies are now using androids to select the most suitable candidates to fill their job vacancies. Taudien has met some robots that act as recruiters for companies and holds that they represent a great revolution for society since they, “Prevent gender discrimination and are capable of analysing the candidates’ personalities and behaviours and can even detect lies.”

In order to evolve and adapt to these technological changes in the labour market, future generations of workers will need complementary training in the digital and new technology sectors. Research by the CEO of Advantage Consultores confirms that young people will not necessarily have to specialise in the field of IT and digitalisation but they will need prior training in technology for any profession. Taudien states, “To survive in the world of work, digital knowledge will be an indispensable requirement for all candidates for every job.”

These new trends that artificial intelligence and robotics will bring about in the labour market are precisely the main topic for discussion at the 5th INTERNATIONAL HR CONFERENCE, to be held in Barcelona in October. For the fifth consecutive year, the event will unite HR specialists and executives from multinationals and large companies from all over the world, including Telefónica and Tesla.

The conference speakers will discuss the sector of innovation and technological development and share their experiences and Sophia, the humanoid robot from Hanson Robotics, will be making her first appearance in Spain as she joins the conference as one of the speakers. She will also be giving her opinions on the future of the labour market and the AI revolution.
